The height of summer is normally peak tourist season in Amsterdam, the weather is warm and the days are long. There are plenty of things to see and do.

Museums, Exhibitions & Attractions in Amsterdam (July 2024)
STRAAT – A unique experience. The world’s biggest street art and graffiti museum in a 8,000 square metres warehouse at NDSM wharf and showcasing some 180 incredible artworks, all made on-site. Amaze Amsterdam – An immersive audio-visual experience with 7 stages which varies from intense, interactive to relaxing. Located in an old industrial nightclub in Amsterdam’s West Port district. Book Amaze Amsterdam tickets here
Fabrique des Lumières – Immersive exhibitions of classical, modern and contemporary artists using cutting-edge technology with light projections and music. New exhibition is Dutch Masters, From Vermeer to Van Gogh with works from renowned Dutch artists. Alongside there is a short program Mondriaan, An Abundance of Colour. Runs 22 Mar to 18 Oct 2024. Da Vinci Genius – A new immersive art experience showcasing the works of Leonardo Da Vinci including the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Uses interactive technology and floor-to-ceiling projections. Runs 30 Nov 2023 to 30 Sep 2024. Book Da Vinci Genius tickets here
Nxt Museum – The first “new media art” museum in the Netherlands which has large-scale, multi-sensory immersive exhibitions. Foreign Nature, exhibition from Dutch digital artist Julius Horsthuis using computer generated fractals which can evoke altered states of consciousness. Runs 3 Jun to 3 Sep 2024. Rijksmuseum – The Rijksmuseum’s rich collection (including Rembrandt’s Night Watch) is a must-see in Amsterdam. Stop motion, The photography of Muybridge & Marey, exhibition featuring early photographs capturing the movement of humans and animals. Runs 5 Jul to 1 Sep 2024. Book Rijksmuseum tickets here
Rijksmuseum Gardens – Lee Ufan, exhibition of minimalist sculptures from the Korean artist. Runs 28 May to 27 Oct 2024. Free entry
Van Gogh Museum – Popular museum with the world’s largest collection of Vincent van Gogh paintings. Matthew Wong / Vincent van Gogh: Painting as a Last Resort, exhibition of the late Chinese-Canadian artist who had much in common with Van Gogh. Runs 1 Mar to 1 Sep 2024. Anne Frank House – The canal house on Amsterdam’s Prinsengracht canal where Anne Frank wrote her famous teenage wartime diary whilst hiding from German occupation. [For further insight, book an Anne Frank walking tour here which lasts 2 hours and explores Amsterdam’s Jewish quarter]

Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime Museum) – Food For Thought, exhibition taking a close look at world food production through the lens of photographer and film maker Kadir van Lohuizen. Extended run until 5 Jan 2025.
H’ART Museum – The renamed former Hermitage Museum presents Kadinsky, a retrospective exhibition of Wassily Kandinsk featuring 60 artworks from the Centre Pompidou collection. Runs 19 Jun to 10 Nov 2024. Book H’ART Museum tickets here

Huis Marseille –Jeff Cowen, Provence Works, exhibition from the American photographer inspired by the Provence region in France; Awoiska van der Molen, The Humanness of Our Lonely Selves, the Dutch photographer acclaimed for psychological landscapes. Both run 22 Jun to 13 Oct 2024.
Stadsarchief – Déjà Vu, photo exhibition at the City Archives featuring local press photographer Erik Klein Wolterink. It shows the changing face of Amsterdam. Runs 26 Apr to 29 Sep 2024. Free entry

ARCAM – Form Follows Finance – The City as a Spreadsheet, exhibition about the costs of urban development and an insight into Amsterdam’s leasehold system. Runs 6 Jul to 10 Nov 2024.

Rijksmuseum Schiphol – Amsterdam airport hosts a small selection of works from the Rijksmuseum collection. The museum is located on Holland Boulevard (between Lounges 2 and 3 in non-Schengen departures) and is open 24 hours a day to passengers. Free entry

Friday Night Skate – 20km organised skate around the streets of Amsterdam held every Friday night (2030, weather permitting) from Vondelpark Pavilion.

Festivals in Amsterdam and Netherlands (July 2024)
Guilty Pleasures Festival – Party festival with nostalgic theme and wide array of activities. 6 Jul 2024 at Gaasperplas, Amsterdam.
Julidans – International contemporary dance festival with a broad programme. Held at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and at other locations in the city, expected 3-16 Jul 2024.
Over het IJ Festival – A 10 day summer theatre festival held on the waterfront of the IJ river and around Amsterdam Noord. It also includes live bands, DJs and plenty of good food and drink. 32nd edition due over 12-21 Jul 2024. Location is NDSM wharf, Amsterdam (accessible by free ferry from Amsterdam Central) and around Amsterdam Noord.
Kwaku Summer Festival – Large summer festival focussed around the culturally diverse Zuidoost (south-east) district of Amsterdam. Runs each weekend at Nelson Mandela Park with a broad range of activities including art and music, a football tournament and food offerings. Expected 13 Jul to 4 Aug 2024 each weekend.
Dekmantel Festival – Electro music festival featuring a large line-up of cutting-edge artists. Runs 26 Jul – 4 Aug 2024 (10th edition) at 8 stages in Amsterdamse Bos and at various venues around the IJ river in Amsterdam.
No Art Festival – Features unconventional art-performances and pioneering musicians. 27 Jul 2024 at Flevopark Amsterdam.
Milkshake Festival – Dance music festival over a weekend organised by Paradiso and AIR which includes a camping area. Event expected over 27-28 Jul 2024 at Westerpark, Amsterdam.
